Program Content and Objectives
As debate swirls around the future of the healthcare industry, there’s one prediction virtually all stakeholders agree on: reimbursement will decline. Medicare rates will shrink, and private payers will likely follow suit. A revised and expanded list of non-reimbursable “never events” is pending, and private payers are acting in concert with CMS. And if leaner payments weren’t enough, increasing transparency on quality and cost, focus on evidence-based medicine, and movement toward bundled pricing will likely put a larger premium on differentiation than ever before. In order to succeed in this increasingly demanding environment, healthcare executives will need to take cost and quality management to a whole new level. Predictive care paths are the essential starting point for such an effort.
When crafted correctly, predictive care paths accommodate individual patient care requirements while providing guidelines that enable the management of unnecessary variability. They allow delivery organizations to manage cost and quality performance against their financial and quality commitments. They’re also a necessary tool for systematically improving quality, reducing costs, and building the economic and clinical value case that can differentiate your health system from others.
This webinar will outline the steps needed to develop predictive care paths, and explain how you can use them to help you navigate an increasingly turbulent healthcare environment. Key topics will include:
- Key considerations in developing predictive care paths
- How to effectively engage and build consensus among physicians on care path content
- Using care paths to evaluate clinical outcomes, manage variability and identify non-value added activities
- Ways care paths can support cost management, quality improvement and evidence-based medicine, as well as help you build the economic and clinical value case that differentiates your system
The session will offer experience-based insights into the challenges of this new orientation to managing cost and quality. Participants will take away a clear understanding of baseline requirements and key processes needed to make this approach successful. Beyond that, we’ll discuss steps you must take to differentiate your services based on value.
The one-hour session will include a 35-40 minute discussion and review of these critical issues, and 20-25 minutes for live Q&A.
