Business Challenges

In many companies, the annual Strategic Planning process is the primary vehicle for ensuring management attention to strategy. However, the process can easily devolve into a series of suboptimal elements, including boilerplate reporting formats that do not address individual business needs, presentation forums that are either overly conceptual, overly data-intensive, or both, and then a disconnected transition into short-term operational planning and budget negotiations. The exercise can become too inwardly-focused, and the disconnect between strategic and operational planning weakens the focus on accountability.
